Always follow your doctor’s instructions precisely. However, common dosages typically involve administering 2-3 drops of 0.3% ciprofloxacin solution into the affected ear(s) twice daily. This means you’ll apply the drops morning and night.
Duration of Treatment
Treatment usually lasts for 7-10 days. Do not stop using the drops prematurely, even if you feel better. Completing the full course ensures the infection is eradicated. Prolonged use beyond 10 days isn’t generally recommended without consulting your physician.
Proper Administration
Lie on your side with the affected ear facing upward. Gently pull your earlobe upward and backward to straighten the ear canal. Instill the prescribed number of drops. Remain in this position for a few minutes to allow the drops to reach the infection site. Repeat the process for the other ear if necessary.
Precautions
Avoid touching the dropper tip to your ear or any other surface to prevent contamination. If you experience any unusual reactions such as increased pain, swelling, or hearing changes, contact your doctor immediately. Ciprofloxacin ear drops are only for ear infections; do not use them for other conditions. Keep out of reach of children.
Possible Side Effects
Minor side effects may include temporary itching or burning in the ear. Severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention. Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction include hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, or dizziness.
Storage
Store the ear drops at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Check the expiration date before use and discard any unused medication after the expiry date.
