Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal remedies, before starting tadalafil citrate liquid. Some interactions can be serious.
Nitrates
Tadalafil interacts dangerously with nitrates found in medications for chest pain (angina). This combination can cause a significant drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness, fainting, or even a heart attack. Avoid using tadalafil if you take nitrates.
Alpha-Blockers
- Alpha-blockers, often prescribed for high blood pressure or enlarged prostate, can lower blood pressure. Combining them with tadalafil may cause excessive blood pressure lowering. Your doctor might adjust your dosages or recommend alternatives.
CYP3A4 Inhibitors
Medications that inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme, such as ketoconazole and ritonavir, can increase tadalafil levels in your blood. This may increase the risk of side effects. Your doctor may need to adjust your tadalafil dose.
CYP3A4 Inducers
Conversely, medications that induce (increase the activity of) the CYP3A4 enzyme, such as rifampin and St. John’s Wort, can decrease tadalafil levels, reducing its effectiveness. Discuss this with your doctor.
Alcohol
Excessive alcohol consumption can worsen tadalafil’s side effects, particularly dizziness and low blood pressure. Moderate alcohol intake is generally acceptable, but consult your doctor if you have concerns.
Grapefruit Juice
Grapefruit juice inhibits CYP3A4. Avoid grapefruit juice while taking tadalafil, as it may increase tadalafil levels in the blood.
Other Medications
Certain antifungals Some antibiotics HIV medications
These medications may interact with tadalafil. A complete list is beyond the scope of this section; always disclose all medications to your doctor.
