Regular monitoring is key for successful outcomes. Expect transvaginal ultrasounds to track follicle growth, typically starting around day 8-10 of your cycle. Your doctor will measure follicle size and count, looking for optimal development before triggering ovulation. Blood tests will measure your estrogen levels, providing further insight into follicular growth and maturity.
Tracking Ovarian Response
The goal is to develop at least one, but ideally several, mature follicles (approximately 18-20mm in diameter) with a good lining thickness. Over-stimulation is a potential risk, so your doctor will carefully monitor for signs including significantly elevated estrogen levels and multiple large follicles. Should over-stimulation be detected, treatment will be adjusted or cancelled.
Post-Trigger Monitoring
After ovulation is triggered (usually with hCG), follow-up ultrasounds might be conducted to assess the success of the ovulation induction. This is not always routine and depends on your individual circumstances and physician’s protocol. Pregnancy tests, typically starting around 14 days after ovulation, determine whether conception has occurred.
