Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms after completing your 6-day prednisone course:
- Severe abdominal pain Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath Chest pain Rapid heartbeat Severe headache Sudden vision changes Increased swelling or inflammation Severe muscle weakness Unexplained fever Persistent nausea or vomiting Signs of infection (such as a persistent cough, increased pus, or red streaks around a wound) Severe or worsening symptoms of the condition for which you were prescribed prednisone.
While some mild side effects, such as insomnia or upset stomach, are possible, these symptoms typically resolve within a few days after stopping prednisone. However, the symptoms listed above warrant immediate medical attention.
Also, schedule a follow-up appointment with your physician to discuss any concerns and monitor your recovery. This is especially important if you had a serious condition treated with prednisone. Your doctor may want to gradually reduce your dosage, or assess your general health after the course.
Don’t hesitate to reach out for medical advice if you’re unsure whether a symptom requires immediate attention. Keep a record of your symptoms and their severity to share with your doctor. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully regarding your medication and post-treatment care.
