Monitoring Progress and When to Seek Further Medical Advice

Check your ear regularly. Note any changes in pain, swelling, or drainage. Pain relief should improve within 24-48 hours after starting doxycycline. If pain persists or worsens after 72 hours, contact your doctor immediately. Pus or significant drainage from your ear should also prompt an immediate call to your physician.

Signs Requiring Immediate Medical Attention

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following: severe ear pain, fever above 101°F (38.3°C), dizziness, hearing loss, facial weakness or drooping, or any signs of allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing).

Follow-Up Appointments

Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor as advised. This allows them to assess your progress and ensure the infection has cleared. Failure to complete the full course of doxycycline can lead to treatment failure and potential complications. Always adhere to your doctor’s instructions regarding medication dosage and duration.
