Obtaining an Idaho Concealed Carry Permit

Apply online through the Idaho State Police website. This is the most convenient method.

You’ll need to provide your personal information, fingerprints (submitted through a participating livescan provider), and pass a background check. Idaho law requires you to be at least 21 years old, a US citizen or legal resident, and have no disqualifying criminal history.

The application fee is $15. Expect processing to take several weeks.

Upon approval, you will receive your Idaho Concealed Carry Permit. Carry it with you at all times when possessing a concealed firearm. Familiarize yourself with Idaho’s concealed carry laws; these laws define where you can and cannot carry a firearm.

Consider taking a firearms safety course. While not mandated for permit acquisition in Idaho, training improves your safety and competence. You can find many reputable instructors offering courses throughout the state. Many law enforcement agencies also offer these courses.

Review Idaho’s statutes regarding concealed carry to understand its restrictions and regulations completely. Regular updates may occur, so checking directly with the Idaho State Police for the most current information is advised.

Keep your permit current; renewal requirements are detailed on the Idaho State Police website. Be sure to renew in a timely manner before your current permit expires.
