Inderal, or propranolol, can cause various side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and cold hands and feet. Less common, but still possible, are sleep disturbances, slowed heart rate (bradycardia), and low blood pressure (hypotension).
Serious Side Effects
In rare cases, more serious side effects may occur. These include worsening of heart conditions, allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), and breathing problems. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these.
Precautions
Before starting Inderal, inform your doctor about all your medical conditions, especially heart problems, lung disease, diabetes, and thyroid issues. This medication can interact with other drugs, so disclose all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements. Avoid alcohol while taking Inderal, as it can worsen side effects. Gradual dosage adjustments are usually recommended to minimize side effects. Regular monitoring of your heart rate and blood pressure is important during treatment. Pregnancy and breastfeeding should be discussed with your doctor before commencing Inderal therapy. Finally, abruptly stopping Inderal can be harmful; always follow your doctor’s instructions for discontinuation.
