Prevention and Diagnosis of Trichomoniasis

Practice safe sex. Use condoms consistently and correctly during every sexual encounter to significantly reduce your risk.

Limit your number of sexual partners. Reducing the number of partners lowers your chances of exposure.

Get tested regularly if you are sexually active. Trichomoniasis often shows no symptoms, so regular testing is key to early detection and treatment.

Your doctor can perform a simple pelvic exam. They’ll collect a sample of vaginal fluid or urine for testing.

A nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) is the most accurate diagnostic method. NAATs detect the trichomonas parasite’s DNA, providing quick and reliable results.

If diagnosed, follow your doctor’s treatment plan diligently. This ensures complete eradication of the infection and prevents reinfection.

Your partner(s) should also be tested and treated. Untreated partners can easily reinfect you.
